I attended the Saturday, October 15, web conference with Dr. Abernathy speaking and Dawn Kirkland, the IA, also in attendance. Some questions arose about APA since the IA hold told one person in our Skype group that all the citations had to be direct quotes. According to Dr. Abernathy, this is not correct. Scholarly writing does allow for both paraphrasing citations and direct quote citations. In addition, questions arose about how to submit our class reflections, since many of us had followed the advice from the very first web conference – not to write about each of the class activities. We had followed the Professor’s directions to reflect on the reflection, but received failing grades because we did not list out all the class activities. This is still a little unclear, but at this point I will do what the grader wants. It was also clarified that our field based activities need to match up with our internship plan.
There was also a doorbell, FEDEX man, talk of taxes and ibuprofen and pain meds. Personally, I take them all, but not for too long or too much. I just change them up enough to avoid the bad effects.

October 4, 2011, Web Conference
The October 4th web conference was led by Dr. Abernathy. Students had questions about graduation and ordering the cap, gown, hood, and tassel. Our master of education degree gives us a hood with blue for education and red for Lamar University. Dr. Abernathy stated in regards to tk20 that the e-portfolio goes in as a link, and the comprehensive exam goes in as a file.
Robyn had a cute baby in her lap named Harlee. Dr. Abernathy told a story about how people in her family were called “monkey cheeks” because they had big cheeks.
We were encouraged to watch the discussion board and ask many questions so we do not get confused about our assignments.

Web Conference August 10, 2011
Web conference Reflection:
This week’s web conference was held on Wednesday, August 10th at 7 PM. The web conference discussion was centered on the requirements of the PISE or TLISE - a document evaluating our internship work. Students also discussed the need to update or create a professional development plan. Dr. Martin suggested we join professional organizations to increase our vitae and opportunities for professional development. Many organizations offer an aspiring administrator discount. One significant new thing I understood was that I would need to write a reflection for each of the 33 indicators of my internship.

The web conference began ten minutes early and questions about the assignment were the first asked. Dr. Mason clarified the upload requirements for tk20 for this class. In week five, students need to update the curriculum vitae, their ETLISE results with a reflection, update their professional development plan, career and goal plans and our updated internship plan. Wow, that is a huge job – the updated internship plan. The most difficult part for me is the formatting of the plan. It is difficult to navigate and not lose data. The draft of the action research will also need to be uploaded. Lamar now offers this class to students in their seventh course of those in the cohorts before thirteen. The information about APA in an earlier class would have been extremely helpful.
Other web conference questions were about the part of the assignment that asks for key words and when and how to submit the PISE and ETLISE. I have a hard time hearing Dr. Martin in these conferences, but I can hear Dr, Mason well.

This web conference focused mainly on questions related to our action research project and the discussion post requirement for learning about our district’s IRB policy. It was stated that the past master’s student really enjoyed their research projects. Action research is best received when it contains quantitative data. It is also informative when it contains detailed descriptions of impressions, feelings and opinions of those involved. Since most action research projects are campus based, this information is very beneficial and helpful to the campus administrator. The campus administrator wants to know the morale and culture of the staff and school climate. Action Research projects are one way for them to derive this information.
Students asked questions about the literature review part of the paper. This includes sources that have previously researched your topic. It does not need to be long if you find adequate sources. Our research data is to be mostly our data.
Students discussed the IRB policies in their districts. Schools created these policies to protect those in schools who are vulnerable to misrepresentation.
Dr. Mason also discussed a project that Lamar University is doing to study the use of technology by district administrators. Are administrators modeling technology use well? The administration program has added technology courses to address this issue.

Web Conference July 19th
The July 19th web conference was lead by Dr. Mason and then also attended by Dr. Martin who gave many thoughts on different topics. The first questions were about the discussion board topics for this week. Dr. Mason asked us to discuss the best leadership activity we have done in our internship. Many of the attendees commented on their action research projects. They had questions about the review needed by their site mentor and changes in their site mentor. The topics of the actions research project varied. Some included discipline referrals, scheduling, block scheduling, RTI, communications, and leadership experiences. Much of the discussion focused on administrators’ relationships with staff and teachers, professional practice and the surprises of administration. Many commented on the practices of administrators that they did not want to emulate if they became a leader.

This web conference had 71 attendees at one point. Dr. Jason Mixon led it. There was a mixture of both Educational Administration and Educational Technology students in attendance. The students asked several questions about expectations for the Instructional Associates. Dr. Mixon said that IAs should give answers to questions within 24 hours. This is a large class with over 1700 taking this class. Lamar’s program is the largest in the world. Several students asked about an email containing the seven steps for using TK20. I have not received that email this week, but it may not be necessary since I have already used TK20. Some in this class had not. The ED AD students were to attend three web conferences during their courseware and upload their notes to the TK20. The Ed Tech students did not have to do that since we all have blogs and wikis.

Web Conference Reflection EDLD 5364

This Saturday’s web conference was very full with many participants. About six students ventured out to put on their cameras. Some students asked about the TK20 purchase. Many in my cohort have avoided buying it. If your district is paying for your masters, they might not also pay for the service. Plus, since we all have everything out on the web in our wikis and blogs, it does seem redundant.
There were some questions about when to do the internship if you were close to graduation. It was interesting to hear the answers since I did not realize there were time constraints with the end of the internship.
But mostly the questions were about the project and assignment. Dr. Mason spoke about the different options we had about fulfilling the project which helped our group to come up with a skeleton plan of what we would like to do. After the web conference, we had a Skype conference to discuss our plans and make assignments.

Web Conference Reflection Aug. 31st 2010
The web conference began and only a few were willing to plug in their cameras. It quickly filled up though. Many had questions about the assignment and confusion about whether or not we needed to create an edited video to present.
During this web conference, Dr. Abernathy answered questions concerning the week 2 assignment and the changes that had been made. This assignment would include an audio only podcast on how to use one of the open source video editing software programs that we have reviewed this week. This audio recording will be done on the program Audacity and should be about two minutes long. We are also expected to blog about the software we have learned about this week. Dr. Abernathy also suggested that we read about” the art of the edit” which in on the website www.wikipedia.com.
Students had questions about when we will receive the new assignment and how we were going to load it into Epic if we have the wrong file name. I will find out soon! I was concerned that I was doing the assignment wrong since I still had the old assignment. I received the updated assignment later in the week through email.
